They’re RSD pain free, and they walked!

Filed under: Uncategorized — brandyupdate @ 9:32 pm

Yesterday’s blog wasn’t too upbeat, but I bet this one is!

When we got to the girls’ room this morning, Dr. Rohr was in there chatting with them.  The girls were all excited – they had walked!  The physical therapist had come earlier and had done some exercises with them, and gotten them out of bed and helped them walk.  We asked Dr. Rohr what we could ask or say (because we had been told not to mention pain, RSD, etc.), and he said that since the girls are wide awake now, it is okay to discuss things fully.  So, the first thing we asked is, “Do you have any RSD pain.”  Both girls said “no!”  They have lots of aches and pains, and Dr. Rohr said that is normal.  So, they are RSD-pain free and they can walk!

Dr. Rohr was very impressed with their progress, and said that their IVs and catheters could come out.  (Were they ever happy about that!)  He said that if all went well today, they can go back to the hotel tomorrow or Wednesday.  He wants them to stay at the hotel for 1-2 weeks to be sure all is well, but they are well enough that they don’t have to stay in the hospital during this time!

Thing did go well today.  The girls ate and kept everything down, and both walked to the bathroom (with assistance) several times.  Keep in mind that just walking to and from the bathroom wore them out, but hey – they walked!

Brandy’s foot is still turned in a little.  Dr. Rohr said that she’ll need an orthodic in her shoe while her muscles build up, but that it should resolve itself over time.  She’ll need physical therapy, especially things like a bicycle and work in a swimming pool.  She will have to progress slowly – it make take months for her to be walking any distance without assistance.  But she can walk!  And no RSD pain!

Did I mention that she walked, and has no RSD pain?  Both girls.  Amazing.  Outstanding.  Wonderful.  We can’t tell you how elated we are!  It feels like the weight of the world has been lifted off of us, and we have our girls back.  Or, perhaps more accurately, the girls have their lives back.

It will still take a lot of work on their part to get back up to full speed, but if I spell all of this out now, there won’t be anything to write in upcoming posts.

  2. You guys are troopers! I’ve just had the chance to visit the website and I’ve read all the blogs and I am so impressed with how hard you’ve been working while seemingly in good spirits. I’m still trying to get my head around the idea of Lisa being Mountain Dew free while being a passenger in a car. I can not wait to see Brandy at the beach in August! Jane.
