I’m sorry it’s been so long since we updated the blog. November 20 – that’s 2-1/2 months! Well, a belated Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year. They have all been pretty happy for us!
Here are some highlights of the biggest things that have happened with Brandy since the last post:
1. At physical therapy, Brandy started taking steps without holding on to anything and while wearing regular shoes.
2. The Roanoke Times did a followup story to their article on her last year. Ironically, they were at PT the day she took her first steps without assistance, and a photo of that was in the paper.
3. We were snowed in at her uncle’s house for the big snow storm in the DC area December 18-19.
4. She has a new physical therapist, Jessica. We will miss James; he did a great job and really helped Brandy get to where she is today.
5. She applied to graduate school at Virginia Tech. She plans to get her masters in Sociology, and hopes to get an assistantship to help pay for it.
6. We went to Florida (actually we’re there now) to visit Elizabeth and her family, and to visit Brandy’s grandpa. We picked a good time to go – we missed two big snow storms at home!
7. While in Florida (on both the east coast and west coast), Brandy put on sandals and walked out onto the beach with her crutches, and even put her crutches down and walked (with support). No special shoes – just sandals!
It seems like her back pain is her biggest problem now, and she has an appointment with a neurologist next week to see if there is something else that can be done about it. It may just take time to resolve. In the mean time, she’s trying to work through it.

Great pictures! So glad you’re having such a nice time. Brandy and Elizabeth look wonderful on the beach. The color of the ocean is so pretty. Glad you’re missing all the snow that we’re having in Philly.

So good to hear about your positive progress. Have a safe trip home. We’ve got over 2 feet of snow and blizzard conditions. We are glad you were able to be warm in sunny Florida.
